Baby showers are full of love, and then you come home with a car full of tiny socks, a stack of cards and a to-do list that just got longer. Writing thank-you notes can feel like one more thing, especially if baby has already arrived. Here's a simple way to get them done, plus wording you can borrow for nearly every kind of gift.
What to include in a baby shower thank-you note
Keep it short. A good baby shower thank-you note has three parts:
- The thank-you: name the gift if you can ("the yellow blanket", "the books for the nursery").
- One personal line: how you're using it, why you love it, or what it means to you.
- A warm close: something about the baby, your family or seeing them soon.
Three or four sentences is perfect. Nobody expects a letter, and a sincere, specific note always beats a long one.
When to send baby shower thank-you notes
Aim to send them within a few weeks of the shower. That said, if baby arrives before you've finished, everyone understands. A late, heartfelt note is far better than none at all. Many parents finish their stack in small batches, five or ten at a time, during naps.
Baby shower thank-you wording by situation
For a specific gift
Dear Aunt Rosa,
Thank you so much for the yellow knit blanket. It's already on the crib, and it looks perfect there. We're so grateful for your love and can't wait for you to meet the baby.
With love,
Dear Hannah,
Thank you for the books for the nursery! Story time is going to be our favorite part of the day. We're so lucky to have you in our lives.
Love,
For a practical gift (diapers, wipes, bottles)

Thank you for the diapers and wipes. You can never have too many, and we know these will be put to good use very soon! Your thoughtfulness means so much.
Warmly,
For a big-ticket or group gift
Dear Friends from the Office,
Thank you all for going in together on the stroller. It's such a generous gift, and we know it will get a lot of use on our walks. We feel so supported by all of you.
With gratitude,
For a cash gift or gift card

Thank you for your generous gift. We're putting it toward the car seat, and it's such a help as we get ready for our little one. We're so grateful.
Love,
For a handmade gift
Dear Cousin Mia,
Thank you for the handmade quilt. Knowing you made it for our baby makes it so special, and we'll treasure it for years. Thank you for your love and care.
With love,
For the shower host
Your host deserves a slightly longer note. They gave their time, home and energy.
Dear Jess,
Thank you for hosting such a beautiful shower. We felt so celebrated, and we know how much planning and care went into the day. We're so lucky to have a friend like you. Thank you, from both of us and the baby!
All our love,
For someone who sent a gift but couldn't attend
Dear Grandma June,
We missed you at the shower, but we felt your love all the same. Thank you for the sweet outfits. We can't wait to send you photos of the baby wearing them.
Love always,
For meals or help after baby arrives
Dear Neighbors on Elm Street,
Your casserole dinners got us through our first week home. Thank you for feeding us and looking out for our family when we needed it most. We're so grateful to live next to you.
With heartfelt thanks,
Wording after baby has arrived
If you're writing after the birth, it's lovely (but not required) to include the baby's name or a quick update:
- "Little Theo is already snuggled up in the blanket you gave us."
- "We're settling in at home and using your gift every single day."
- "Thank you from all three of us!"
You can sign from the baby too: "Love, Sam, Alex and baby Theo" is always a sweet touch.
Short phrases to mix and match
If you need to vary your wording across a big stack, try these:
- "We're so grateful you thought of us."
- "It was exactly what we needed."
- "Your kindness means the world to us."
- "We can't wait for you to meet the baby."
- "Thank you for celebrating this new chapter with us."
- "Our little one is already so loved, thanks to you."
The easy way to write the whole stack
When you're tired and the list is long, starting each note from a blank card is the hardest part. Our free Thank-You Note Helper takes your gift list (name, gift and an optional personal detail) and writes a different, warm note for each person. You can copy them by hand, use the handwriting guide, or print them directly onto cards. The first 10 notes are free.
Cards made for baby thank-yous
Our Little Clouds Baby Shower Thank-You Cards have soft blue clouds and blush dots, with "Little thanks for a big kindness" printed inside. They're an instant printable download in folded A2 and flat 4x6 sizes, so you can print exactly as many as you need, even at 2 a.m.
A few final tips
- Keep a gift list at the shower. Ask a friend to write down who gave what as you open gifts. Future you will be so grateful.
- Pre-address envelopes while you're waiting for baby to arrive.
- Split the list with your partner. Each of you can write to your own friends and family.
- Don't stress about perfection. A warm, simple note is exactly what people hope to receive.
